Must Visit Waterway Locations

POSTED:

Check out some of our 'must visit' locations along the waterways for your next walk or run.

1. The Shannon-Erne Blueway offers a selection of beautiful trails along the length of this stunning waterway. Explore from the villages of Ballinamore, Ballyconnell or Leitrim, and find your happy running place along these picturesque waterside routes.

2. Enjoy an incredible walking and cycling trail between Drumshanbo and Battlebridge – featuring the iconic Acres Lake Floating Boardwalk, where you can experience walking on water – you need to place this unique trail firmly on the bucket list!

3. A Blueway Activity Zone at Mullingar Harbour provides easy access to paddling the tranquil waters of the Royal Canal. Later in 2019, the 130km Royal Canal Greenway will open up new possibilities for walkers (and cyclists!) from Maynooth, all the way to Cloondara, where the canal meets with the mighty Shannon. The Royal Canal Greenway, Ireland’s longest distance walking and cycling route, will soon be ready. It’s time to get in gear for 130km of picturesque, tranquil, relaxing trails between Maynooth and Longford town/Cloondara. It’s a unique experience which we hope to officially unveil in 2020.

4. Lough Derg Blueway – While Lough Derg is truly a paradise, you can connect with the water in a different way, as you explore the other stunning walking routes along or overlooking Lough Derg. Not for the faint-hearted, there’s the stunning 180km East Clare Way, or delve into the forest trails at Portumna Forest Park – and watch out for white-tailed Sea Eagles!
