A Strong Finish to Day 2 of the Euro U18 Champs

POSTED:

It was the first day of the semi-finals and finals for the Irish athletes competing at the European U18 Championships in Israel today was a busy evening of athletics action.

First in action this evening, Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin) put in a strong performance in the women’s 100m semi-finals, coming across the finish line in seventh place with a time of 11.94. It wasn't enough for her to progress to the finals, but Ndudi was in the fastest of the semi-finals in the women’s 100. Ndudi takes to the field tomorrow morning at 6:05am for the women’s Long Jump.

Max O’Reilly (River stick Kinsale AC) ran 10.80 to come sixth in his men’s 100m semi-finals. It wasn’t enough to secure his place in the final but no doubt the sprinter will have benefited from the international competition experience. O’Reilly’s semi-final was the first of the evening to break the men’s Championship 100m Record as Sweden’s Isak Hughes set it to 10.39, before being smashed by Marek Zakrzewski of Poland at 10.33.

Jack Fenlon (St Abbans AC) and Harry Colbert (Waterford AC) represented Ireland in the men’s 3000m final as day 2 of the championships drew to a close.

Fenlon maintained a strong position within the top 10 in the opening laps, displaying a maturity in his technique keeping in with the main group. Fenlon crossed the line just outside the top 10, in 11th position with a time of 8:29.75.

Colbert exited from the race at its midpoint.

Day 3 of the European U18 Championships gets underway from 6:05am as Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin) takes to the Long Jump at 6:05am.
