ADELEKE & O’DONNELL TAKE TO SEMIFINALS AFTER ENGLISH IN THE 800M

POSTED:

Team Ireland returns to action on Day 6 of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, with Mark English taking to the 800m heats followed by the Rhasidat Adeleke and Chris O’Donnell in the 400m semi-finals.

Olympian Mark English joins a talented line up for the 800m heats on Day 6 World Championships at 1:20am (Thursday 21st July Irish Time). At the 2019 edition of the World Championships in Doha, English came seventh in his heat and a time of 1:47.25. The Finn Valley AC star has been busy since competing at the World Indoor Championships in March this year, building his performances to close in on his PB and National Senior Record time of 1:44.71. English won the National 800m Championship title last month, just a week after setting his season best 1:46.02 at the Grand Prix in Madrid.

Powerhouse Rhasidat Adeleke returns to the track for the World Championship 400m semi-finals, at 2:45am (Thursday 21st July Irish Time). Adeleke automatically qualified for the semi-finals after finishing second in the 400m heats with a time of 51.59, after overcoming a short illness following her appearance in the mixed 4x400m on Day 1 of the championships. The 19-year-old has been in stellar form throughout 2022, setting a series of records in the sprints, winning a national championship title and an historical NCAA sprint title, before her debut at these World Championships, with still so much more to come this season.

Taking to the men’s 400m semi-finals at 3:23am (Thursday 21st July Irish Time), Olympian Chris O’Donnell looks to continue an incredible performance at the World Championships. O’Donnell who competed in the mixed 4x400m heats and semi-finals on day 1 of the championships, came fourth in his individual 400m heat with a time of 46.01. It was enough to secure one of the fastest qualification spots available, pushing him through to the semi-finals. O’Donnell like Adeleke has shown incredible form throughout 2022, setting his 400m PB of 45.26 only last month.
