ADELEKE CLOCKS AWESOME 22.85

POSTED:

Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) has clocked the fastest ever Irish Indoor 200m while representing Texas University at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquergue with a stunning 22.85(A*).

The 19-year-old takes over from Phil Healy at the top off the Irish all-time 200m list, eclipsing Healy’s 23.10 set in Athlone in February 2020.

The time will be a new national record, subject to ratification.

It continues Adeleke’s blistering start to the 2022 season, following on from clocking 36.87 for 300m indoors on January 16th , which was the fastest time ever by an Irishwoman over the distance indoors, and also the fastest-ever by a European teenager.

The Tallaght AC athlete enjoyed a stunning 2021, winning two gold medals at the European Athletics U20 Championships in an electric 100m-200m double.

Adeleke followed up her 200m exploits with a breathtaking 7.21(a) for 60m at the same venue in Albuquerque the following day, moving the Tallaght AC athlete to top of the 60m (indoor) all time Irish list. The time improved on Molly Scott’s 7.23 set in Athlone last weekend to complete a remarkable weekend for the sprint star.

Yesterday, Adeleke was awarded the 2021 Under-20 Athlete of the Year Award at the Irish Life Health National Athletics Awards which were hosted online for the first time (see 15.00 mins).
