Athletes Community Award

Dear Stakeholder,

As you may have seen during the World Athletics Awards show last week, this year the Athletes’ Commission together with athletes from all over the world voted on a special award, honouring organisations and individuals who provided athletes with essential support during this challenging year.

Athletics Ireland also recognises the huge challenges we have all faced together in 2020 and endorses this support from our international body.

This inaugural Athletes Community Award was presented on behalf of athletes globally by Athletes’ Commission Chair Renaud Lavillenie and Deputy Chair Dame Valerie Adams to all the Clubs around the world. Many of whom helped negotiate access to training facilities, implemented hygiene protocols for everyone’s safety and where possible even managed to set up local competitions.

“Clubs around the world are so important for the development of our sport, especially at a grassroots level,” said Dame Valerie Adams in her speech announcing Clubs as the winners.
