DEWHIRST CLAIMS EUROPEAN SILVER MEDAL

POSTED:

Tir Chonaill's Fintan Dewhirst has won a 400mH silver medal at the U18 European Championships in Israel this afternoon (July 7th). Dewhirst looked superb in the heats and semi finals, but saved his best performance for the final with the 16-year old Donegal athlete clocking a scintillating 51.65 to take almost one second off his previous personal best.

Running from lane 2, the performance was made all the more impressive by Dewhirst's hurdling efficiency as the race heated up heading into the final 100m.

Elnan of Norway would claim gold in 50.89 WU18L, but it was Dewhirst who had Irish fans on thier feet in claiming Ireland's 7th ever medal at these championships.

Race Summary:

1 NOR ELNAN AURSTAD Bastian 50.89 WU18L

2 IRL DEWHIRST Fintan 51.65 PB NU18
