DSD and Clonliffe reign supreme at Indoor League Final

POSTED:

The AAI National Indoor League final came to a thrilling conclusion today at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbottstown (Feb 11th).

Dundrum South Dublin and Clonliffe Harriers took home the women’s and men’s titles that Leevale had won in 2022.

There were several impressive performances throughout the day, including winning outings from some of Ireland’s top athletes.

Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrocks) won maximum points for his club as he took victory in a blistering Men’s 60m. Smyth finished just 0.01s ahead of Colin Doyle (Leevale AC) clocking a time of 6.83s.

Doyle returned later in the day to win the 200m in 21.63s.

The women’s 60m was won by Katie Doherty (Ratoath AC) in a time of 7.74s. The young talent had to settle for second in the 200m as Molly Hourihan (Dundrum South Dublin) pipped her to victory.

Georgie Hartigan (Dundrum South Dublin) wrapped up her indoor season with wins in the 800m, 1500m and 4x400m relay. The Irish 1000m record showed her class in all three races and played a pivotal role in her club’s success.

Juan Ignacio Pena (Raheny Shamrocks) looked strong as he won the Men’s 1500m in 3.52.78. John Travers (Donore Harriers) also dipped under four minutes to finish second.

Rolus Olusa (Clonliffe Harriers) had a busy day. The multi-eventer won the Pole Vault, clearing 4.30m, and also tasted success in the 60m Hurdles.

Ava Rochford (Nenagh Olympic) also enjoyed a double victory, winning the Pole Vault and High Jump helping her team secure valuable points.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Marcus Lawler, helped his Clonliffe Harriers team take victory in the 4x200m relay running a strong first leg. Clonliffe had earlier stormed to victory in the 4x400m relay. A youthful Ratoath team won the women’s race.

Lauren Callaghan (Finn Valley AC) continued her recent good run of form. The DCU student moved to fourth on the Irish Indoor All-Time list recently and was a clear winner of the women’s Long Jump today. Callaghan had a best jump of 5.85m.

Sam Healy (Leevale AC) took the Men’s Long Jump with a best leap of 7.04m.
