FORDE AND FRAWLEY CLAIM NATIONAL SENIOR GOLDS

Jack Forde (St. Killian’s A.C.) and Laura Frawley (Nenagh Olympic A.C.) were crowned the 123.ie National Senior Combined Events champions this afternoon after a gruelling two days of competition (July 14th).

Forde, who retains the title he won twelve months previous, took the senior decathlon gold with a total of 5902 which included impressive performance across the shot put (12.92m), high jump (1.89m), discus (34.33m), and javelin (36.52m).

Evan Hayes (Waterford A.C.) picked up silver following a host of impressive track performances to finish on 5226, while Ben Donovan (Cork Track Club) went away with bronze on 4955.

Laura Frawley (Nenagh Olympic) picked up wins in the 100mH (14.91), high jump (1.69m), and long jump (5.67m) on her way to taking the senior heptathlon title with 4831 points, taking over from Lara O’Byrne who had won the title the last two years.  Frawley was pushed hard across the two days by Ashleigh McArdle 4714 and Laura Frey 4337 who walked away with silver and bronze respectively.

Caoimhe Fitzsimons (Ratoath A.C.) and Noah Gilmore (Kilkenny City Harriers A.C.) took U20 heptathlon and decathlon golds, with Gilmore retaining his 2023 title. Ruby Cummins (Bandon A.C) is the new U18 champion (4843), while Oscar Naughton (Leevale A.C) took the U18 men’s title with a total of 5629.

AAI Games

There was action aplenty across the AAI Games events on Saturday and Sunday, with performances in the field events arguably stealing the headlines on this occasion.

David Cussen (Old Abbey AC) produced an outstanding performance in the men’s high jump competition on Sunday, with the recently crowned national champion clearing a height of 2.20m which was a new personal best.

There were also a host of notable performance in the throws events. Niamh Fogarty (Raheny Shamrock A.C.) threw a superb 56.36m in the women’s discus which was just 0.13 off her personal best of 56.49 set in Denmark earlier this year, while Sean Mokcler (Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C.) continued his impressive run of form in the hammer, throwing a best of 68.09m.

Molly Scott (SLOT) was fastest of the 100m hurdlers on Saturday, posting a best time of 13.72 in the first of her runs, while Leevale’s Sean Carmody looked very sharp in clocking a best 110m hurdles time of 14.02 in his second appearance of the day.

Saturday’s 200s saw impressive winning outings from Colin Doyle (Leevale A.C.) 21.33 and Cliodhna Manning (Kilkenny City Harriers A.C.) 24.29, while the 100s on Sunday saw Mollie O’Reilly (Dundrum South Dublin) 11.80 and Paul Costelloe (Dooneen A.C.)10.75 fastest.

Emmet Jennings (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) was first home in the senior men’s 10,000m on Saturday evening, crossing in a time of 31:31.16, while An Riocht’s Shona Heaslip was first across the finish in the women’s race in 33:37.49.

Cathal O’Reilly (Kilkenny City Harriers A.C.) was fastest in the 1500m, clocking 3:51.34 to take the win, while Sadhbh Mohan (Metro/St. Brigids A.C.) won a thrilling women’s race to cross in 4:37.70.
