Grace Lynch RDO Develops Youth Training Diary

POSTED:

Grace Lynch, Athletics Ireland Regional Development Officer for the Mid-West and South, has developed a Youth Training Diary for athletes aged 13-U20.  It has been holistically developed to assist a range of athletes achieve their goals both on and off the track, offering tools such as how to set SMART goals, daily progress tracking and key sections on nutrition, mindset, health, and motivation.

The development of the diary has been ongoing since December 2020, alongside founder of Your Health Psychology, former International and National Cross-Country athlete Orna Murray, registered dietitian and Sports Nutrition Specialist Evan Lynch (former international race walker), International Race Walker Kate Veale from West Waterford AC and International Hammer Thrower Adam King from Iveragh AC.

Its design came from Emma Prendiville of Blankslate (former international race walker) and is focused on being both functional and meeting the needs of the athletes. The collaboration with these key contributors has aided in producing a tool which will aid in the development of our young athletes.

To date there has been 2,000 copies shared with Athletics Ireland Regional Squad Athletes and specific clubs around the country, with visions of developing more in the future.

"We as coaches have noticed a change in mindset among our juvenile group in how they approach training and recovery. The athletes are more mindful of recovery around training and are much better prepared as a result!
