IAU 50K European Championships

The 1st IAU 50Km European Championships will take place in Sotillo de Adrada, Avila, Spain on Saturday October 08th 2022.  The championships will see 93 athletes from 20 European Federations taking part.

Representing Ireland will be national 50k record holder Caitriona Jennings (Letterkenny AC) and 2022 national 50k champion Sorcha Loughnane (Donore Harriers). Both athletes come into the weekend in great form. Jennings recently finished 3rd at the IAU 100 Km World Championships in Berlin with a new National Record of 7:07:16. Her time was ratified as a W40 World Record.

Loughnane recently finished 2nd in the Cork City Marathon, less than 1 minute behind Lizzie Lee in a time of 2:45:12.  Earlier this year the Donore Harriers athlete ran a 50 Km personal best to win the national 50k title in a time of 3:20:33 which was also ratified as a World Record for W45.  Both athletes have the potential to be right among the medal places, with Loughnane going into this race ranked number 1 in Europe for 50K.
