Athletics Ireland is seeking to recruit a fulltime Club Development Manager to join the team within Athletics Ireland. This post will be integral to the delivery of key objectives within our Strategic plan 2021 to 2028 and will include supporting clubs their development in our sport. The successful applicant will be tasked with implementing Athletics Ireland’s strategy in this area.

The Role

The role of the Club Development Manager will primarily be to deliver development programme across Athletics Ireland by supporting existing clubs and developing new opportunities for new clubs in the community. The Club Development Manager will report to the Director of Coaching & Development in the delivery of the development strategy as agreed by the Board of Athletics Ireland.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the pilot of the ‘Club Governance and Development Manual’ designed to assist clubs in the development and implementation of club development plans. 
  • Support clubs in designing and implementing club development plans.
  • Support clubs in recruitment and training of volunteers for various roles including committee members.
  • Support clubs in developing club/school links.
  • Assist with the delivery of an annual programme of club development events with other members of the association.
  • Identify funding opportunities and support clubs with the preparation of funding applications, drawing down grants and monitoring & evaluation.
  • Identify examples of good practice in the areas of club management, club development amongst clubs and share this information at all levels.
  • Promote and develop best practice governance procedures across all clubs including a regular “club health check”.
  • Raise the profile of work carried out in terms of funding and club development using the various promotional channels available.
  • Work with the Development Team and other departments as appropriate to expand the capability of the club network.
  • Develop mutually beneficial working relationships with other key organisations/agencies.
  • Promotion of health and safety within the club environment.

Budget

  • Prepare an annual budget, in collaboration with the Director of Coaching & Development, and secure key stakeholder approval.
  • Ensure that activity stays within its approved budget and operates in accordance with AI procedures.

Requirements for the role

  • Proven experience of establishing and delivering a club development plan.
  • Demonstrate the ability to innovate to maximise opportunities
  • Ability to influence others, with excellent team building, collaboration and partnering skills
  • Accredited Athletics Ireland coaching qualification to level 2 standard
  • A degree in sports science or similar ideally to postgraduate level
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland
  • Full clean driving licence and own transport

 

The ideal candidate will have a background in Athletics. Experience in sports development would be advantageous but not essential.

Reporting to:         Director of Coaching and Development

Remuneration and Location

Salary: Band 3, €42,264 (min) to €57,180 (max).

Position Tenure: Six months’ probation, 2 year fixed-term full-time contract.

Position Location: Athletics Ireland Head Office at 19 Northwood Court, Santry, Dublin 9.

Appointment will be made subject to satisfactory Garda Vetting and suitable reference checks.

The post is fulltime at 37.5 hours per week (9-5.30pm) with a performance review after six months.

The post is Dublin based with travel as appropriate.
