JUVENILES READY FOR FINAL FLOURISH IN TULLAMORE
The final day of the 2024 edition of the 123.ie National Juvenile Track and Field Championships takes place in Tullamore this weekend, with the curtain coming down on an action-packed month of juvenile athletics.
Day three of the championships gets underway from 10am on Saturday July 27th with some of the hugely successful Irish U18 team, who were in action at the European Championships in Slovakia last weekend, set to headline what promises to be another thrilling day of athletics.

Day 3 Preview (July 27th)
Track action gets underway with the heats of the U14 200m from 10am, while the U19 Boys shot put competition gets action ‘up and throwing’ in the field events.
Andrew Cooper (Gowran AC) is the headline entry in the U19 Boys shot competition, with the national senior indoor champion looking a red-hot favourite for gold, while multi-event star Eoin O’Callaghan (Bandon AC) is entered in the U18 competition and one to watch if taking his place after a busy schedule in Slovakia.
The 1500m races start from 11.30am (U14).
The U19 Girls 1500m should be a very competitive affair with Nicola Dinan (Leevale AC), Claire Crowley (Leevale AC), Maebh Caffrey (St Cocas AC), and Aimee Wallace (Mullingar Harriers) just some of the contenders. Jodi Foster (Willowfield Harriers) & Jennifer O’Leary (Nenagh Olympic) will likely be to the fore in the U18 race, while Emily Bolton (Donore Harriers) looks a strong contender for the U17 title.
The U18 Boys 1500m could be race of the day with a host of athletes from the recent U18 European Championships entered including Caolan McFadden (Cranford AC), Noah Harris (Parnells AC), Daire O’Donnell (Nenagh Olympic), Shea O’Donnell (Ace AC), and Matei Ursachi (Clonliffe Harriers).
The sprinters will take to the track from 1.30pm for the 200m finals.
The U19 Girls division will likely see Fatima Amusan (Leevale AC) and Hannah Falvey (Belgooly AC) battling it out for medals, while the U18 race should be a compelling watch with Maria Zakharenko (Kilcoole AC), Elena O’Sullivan (Leevale AC), and Katie Doherty (Ratoath AC) all entered.
The U17 races don’t lack for quality with Molly Daly (Kilkenny City Harriers) and recent European finalist Ben Sykes (Orangegrove AC) set to headline proceedings. Recent European bronze medallist Joe Burke (Templemore AC) is entered but not expected to compete given his Slovakian exploits.
The 400m hurdles will offer plenty of excitement with Orlaith Mannion (South Galway AC) and Ethan Dewhirst (Tir Chonaill) two not to be missed if taking to the starting blocks.
The drama of the pole vault will unfold from 1pm with Michael Kent (DMP AC) back in action over the bar following his long jump exploits last weekend.
The U18 Girls high jump competition is one not to be missed with Siun Quinn (Brothers Pearse) entered on the back of her recent lifetime best and European final appearance in Slovakia, while rising star Conor Penney (Caughwell AC) also reached a European high jump final last weekend and continues to add to his growing reputation as one of the most exciting prospects in Irish athletics.
