NATIONAL 10K TITLES ON THE LINE AT GREAT IRELAND RUN

POSTED:

National championship action returns to the roads this weekend as over 2000 participants take to the start-line of the Great Ireland Run, many of whom will be battling it out for national honours come 10am on Sunday (April 16th).

Last year’s champion Sinead O’Connor (Leevale AC) will look to defend her title in the women’s race, while a wide-open men’s race will see a new champion crowned in the absence of Raheny’s Michael Clohisey.

O’Connor, whose 2022 win marked her first national title, won’t have it all her own way on Sunday however, with last year’s second place finisher Ciara Wilson (D.M.P. AC) also entered.

Wilson, the 2020 national indoor 3000m champion, finished within 20 seconds of the Leevale athlete last year and another thrilling tussle could be on the cards.

Mullingar Harriers look to have plenty of strength in depth as they look to defend their 2022 senior women’s team title.

The men’s race looks hugely competitive in the absence of last year’s top three placed finishers.

Jake O’Regan (St Johns AC) has been flying in recent months, picking up first place in the recent Cobh 10 mile (50 mins 47 secs) and will be one of the leading contenders for gold alongside Pierre Murchan (Dublin City Harriers) who is sure to go well for hosts Dublin City Harriers.

The familiar face of Irish 400m record holder David Gillick (M40) will also be taking to championship action on Sunday as he lines up to represent Dundrum South Dublin AC.

Crusaders AC finished ahead of Clonliffe in the senior team standings last year and will look to lead home what looks a strong Dublin entry.
