OREGON22 RELAY TEAM ANNOUNCED

POSTED:

The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will see more than 1900 athletes from 192 teams compete at Eugene’s Hayward Field between 15-24 July.

Ireland will have a strong representation on day 1, with the mixed 4x400m team looking to replicate the magic of Tokyo which saw the Irish mixed 4x400m team become the first ever Irish relay team to make an Olympic final. The relay line up will include 1 Christopher O’Donnell, 2 Sophie Becker, 3 Jack Raftery, and 4 Rhasidat Adeleke. The final of the mixed 4 x 400m will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning (3.50am Irish time).

Olympian David Kenny will go in the 20k Walk at 11.10pm (Irish time) on Friday and looks sure to be in the mix if continuing the form that saw him claim a PB of 1.19.44 back in April. Kenny holds the second fastest time ever posted by an Irish athlete, second only to Robert Heffernan’s 1:19:22.

Kenny’s Tokyo teammate and recent U23 record breaker, Sarah Healy, will go in the heats of a red-hot looking women’s 1500m in the earlier hours of Saturday morning, while Eric Favors and John Kelly will also take to qualifying in the men’s shot put.

Further daily updates and previews will follow over the coming days.
