WIS Week Day 3: Leadership Forerunners

POSTED:

Women in Leadership Roles

Spotlight on Leadership Programme Forerunners

Forerunners was created to provide a pathway for aspiring women to become leaders at a local, regional, and national level. From 2020-2024, the programme has brought a fresh cast of bold leaders, armed with a new vision that will differentiate how we deliver the sport.

Forerunners Alumni tell us about their leadership values and experiences.

We asked this years participants what leadership was about and how Forerunners has empowered them

Sinèad O'Driscoll – Forerunners 2023

I was dipping my toes into getting involved in underage coaching and club development in 2022, albeit with apprehension. As a female in quite often a male orientated environment you thread carefully and though not anyone's fault, just my own insecurities, you're careful not to 'step on toes' when trying to progress.

I will be forever grateful to the leaders and fellow women involved in FORERUNNERS 2023.

It's taught me not to be afraid to step up and take on these challenges but also how best to achieve things within a Club setting from both a coaching aspect and the administrative side of things.

Learning to listen more , understanding others and to not be afraid of change are all areas I feel I have improved in.

To any female coach or club member, Mums included (and us women over 40!) considering this course, do not be afraid to commit, grab the opportunity and make the most of the time hanging out and learning new ways with like minded women!!

Amanda O'Farrell- Forerunners 2023

For me, leadership is about being your authentic self and helping others to embrace their authenticity and individuality. The Forerunners programme provides an arena for Female coaches to find their voice, develop their ideas and become part of an elite group leading the way for the future.
